Finish one real task before replacing a platform.
- 1. Use the same site, five known competitors and the same keyword or prompt set.
- 2. Record missing data, useful findings and dates. Inspect the underlying sources.
- 3. Export one report, check sharing permissions and count the seats or optional services required.
- 4. Calculate monthly checkout and annual upfront totals separately. Keep historical exports before cancelling anything.

The checked monthly offers list both Ahrefs Lite and SE Ranking Core at USD 129, but their allowances and optional services differ. Ahrefs Starter is USD 29 with different limits; it is not automatically an equivalent substitute. Compare your full workload and payment commitment.
Which has a permanent free plan?
Ahrefs Free provides ongoing functionality for verified sites. SE Ranking's full platform offers a 14-day trial without a payment card, rather than a permanent free plan. A free diagnostic or trial should not be compared with a continuing research subscription.
Which is better for AI visibility?
Separate research indexes from tracking your own prompts. Ahrefs lists AI check allowances and separate custom-prompt packages. SE Ranking Core currently lists 25 daily AI prompts for one project; larger standalone SE Visible offers differ. Match included engines, frequency and usage before choosing. We have not benchmarked answer accuracy.
Should I cancel my existing subscription first?
Keep the old workflow available until you have checked exports, historical data, integrations and the replacement's limits. Run the same small task in both tools and record gaps. Our worksheet helps structure that evaluation; it contains no prefilled vendor scores.
